Shepard’s (LexisNexis Academic)

Download file (If you get gibberish when you attempt to play the file, see bottom of this entry for further instructions )
The two most popular resources that lawyers use to make sure a case they are citing is still “good law” are Shepard’s (Lexis) and KeyCite (Westlaw). These are fee-based services in the “real world.”
Currently-affiliated members of the CWRU community (excluding alumni, unfortunately) may access Shepard’s via the research database “LexisNexis Academic”.
Here is a video tutorial on how one would access the Shepard’s results for Bush v. Gore, 531 U.S. 98 (2000). (Download file before viewing it.)
Members of OhioLINK institutions which subscribe to the LexisNexis Academic database may also access Shepard’s from their list of research databases.
If you get gibberish when you save the file to your hard drive, do the following:
1. Right-click and select “save target as”
2. Save as file type “all file types”
3. Append the suffix “.wmv” to the end of the file name.

Great tutorial, Judge Green. For your student’s information, details about the OhioLINK subscription to AcademicUniverse can be found at http://www.ohiolink.edu/resources/show_details.php?db=x_lexnex. The off-campus proxy link, for any member of the OhioLINK community (including CWRU students, faculty, and staff) is http://proxy.ohiolink.edu:9500/login?url=http://www.lexisnexis.com/us/lnacademic.
